US Work & Travel CONFIRMED!!!! n_n

Yeah!!! Aft many wks of uncertainty and waiting, my job placement for WAT(wrk & travel) has finally been confirmed =D Initially was tinking of whether to pay the full program fees in dec last yr cos everything is not confirmed yet we have to fork out like $1098.75. Tt's not including the $250 deposit we've paid earlier in nov. So the total amt I've paid up till now would be $1348.75. Woah a v huge sum of $ =( but I'm really excited abt it!

All four of us Wan Ping, Stacy, Pei Yi and I was offered the same job! yeah! Look at how we'll spend our summer in US:

Employer Name: Charlie's Food Concessions

WORK DESCRIPTION: You will be working in a family business of traveling concession stands. You should be prepared to do all of the tasks involved with operating the food concession stands: preparing and cooking food (griddle and deep fry), making pizza, serving customers/taking orders, cleaning the stand and tables, making change, setting up and taking down tables, chairs and tents, etc. Because you will be dealing with many people and working with money, you should be able to speak English well and have a good knowledge of American currency.

UNIFORM DRESS CODE: Your clothing must be neat and clean. You will be required to wear a company shirt (cotton, t-shirt), hat, and apron while the stands are open. You will be required to purchase t-shirts for about $5 each from your employer. You should bring or purchase casual black jeans (not dark blue!), black pants, or black long shorts to wear on the job as part of your uniform, and comfortable shoes. Long hair must be pulled back and men must be clean shaven. Short hair for men is preferred. Jewelry should be limited to watches and small stud earrings. No other facial piercing allowed. Tattoos should be concealed.

SALARY PER HOUR: Starting at $6.50 per hour.

OVERTIME: $9.75 per hour.

BONUSES: You may receive a performance bonus of $10.00 per week for a job well done provided that you stay until your agreed end date. If you successfully complete your work commitment, you may receive a refund of your housing costs. You will also receive $9.75 an hour for any hours worked after 40 hours per week.

ACCOMMODATION COST: Approximately $40 per week.

ACCOMMODATION: Housing is provided for $40.00 per week, but your housing costs will be refunded to you if you work until the end of your work commitment, your performance is satisfactory and your room is left in good condition. A deposit of $40 will be taken from your first paycheck and will be returned to you when you complete your commitment if your housing is clean and in good condition, and all linens are returned. You will be living in modern travel trailers with other students. Rooms house two or four students. Each room has beds, closets, a sink, a shower, and air conditioning. All trailers will be within walking distance of the work site. You may eat and drink from the food prepared in the stands for free (breakfast is not provided). Refrigerators and freezers are available for you to store your own groceries if you desire. Smoking and drinking alcohol are prohibited in your housing, in any of the vehicles, and at work. Housing is strictly male or female. No visitors of the opposite sex are allowed in your housing.

TRAVEL TIME FROM NYC TO JOB SITE: 24 hours.

APPROXIMATE TRAVEL COST FROM NYC: $90.

MODE OF TRAVEL: Bus

COMPANY INFO: This employer is a family run concessions business with eight concession trailers. The trailers are used to prepare and sell food at special events and fairs. This is a unique job in that you will be based in Wisconsin, but traveling throughout Wisconsin, Minnesota, Indiana, Upper Michigan, Tennessee, and Alabama. You will travel to a new location with your coworkers and the trailers every week or two. On your time off you will have time to do some exploring and enjoy your time in the U.S.

AREA INFO: Your home base is in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, adjacent to Madison-the capitol city of Wisconsin, and near the popular tourist destination of Wisconsin Dells. You will be traveling throughout Wisconsin, Minnesota, Indiana, Upper Michigan, Tennessee, and Alabama.

Sounds cool rite? =D Although i tink tt the pay of $6.50 is a little low =( Btw, if any of u haf any info abt any of the states mentioned above, pls let me know k? Cos i haf totally no idea whr r all those areas tt we'r gonna wrk at and whether thr are things to see and do =P

The best part is that I haf requested to go after commencement ceremony and the arrangement was done nicely! I'm only required to reach New York City on 15 July 2008 and work until at least 15 oct 08. I tink commencement dates wouldn't fall aft tt rite? =D It's the best of both worlds. Oh and if any of u al know of whr to get cheap air tix to new york, pls let me know too =)
