Nm3217 PR project - Disney Children's
I am so excited! I suddenly thot of a campaign while I was pigging at swensens' with siew jus now. She was telling me abt her FYP for her poly course, radiational therapy and she mentioned that one of her classmate's team were trying to doing something like this - print cartoon characters on the face mask used during the radiation process. The mask is required to protect patients with brain cancer(or cancer around the facial area I'm not too sure) when radiation treatment is given. It's used to protect the face or jus not to let them see the equipments to prevent fear. Ok I'm not really sure of the usage, got to get hold of more info. But as you noe, the treatment may be painful and kids will be quite scared to even enter the therapy room. Hence they propse that printing cartoon characters on the mask will reduce their fear of the treatment as the cartoons will make it seem like a frenly environment. On top of that, they are looking into making videos with storylines that depicts how those cartoon characters defy all odds(i.e. their illness) to become heros or heroines and live happily ever after. In this way, kids will not be so traumatised by their own illness aft watching the video and with the mask put on, they will feel like they are brave heros as in the cartoon!
Great idea isn't it?
I was quite touched by this idea which triggered my brains to expand it to my own NM3217 project! As we all noe that disney characters are copyrighted and their copyright fees are really expensive. I was thinking of having Disney as my organization to start a PR initiative.
Some ideas brainstormed:
1) They can donate their copyrighted characters to manufacture this masks
2) Pay for the manufacturing cost of the mask
3) Lend their expertise to create the videos mentioned
4) Set up a fund to aid families with cancer children faced with financial difficulties in managing their medical expenses
5) Decorate the wards and treatment rooms with disney wallpapers
6) Distribute surplus disney merchandises and toys as rewards to patients who have fulfilled something e.g. bravery award for undergoing a surgery, obedience award for attending all scheduled treatments w/o playing traunts
Why is it a good idea?
1) Poor kids who do not have the opportunity to visit the real disneyland can experience the feel of a 'disneyland' in the hospital
2) In this way, those children who love the cartoons in the hospital will be more willing to visit the hospital and receive treatment rather than being 'forced' to go and be completely traumatised
3) Left over merchandises from disney are put to good use!
Now I need to do research on Disney and see if it's feasible. Also I'll need to see if my tutor approves of my choice and if I am able to contact them.
